Ian Ocholla is a Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Cape Town (UCT), hosted by Shocklab and working in collaboration with the GeoAI-Africa Network. His research focuses on developing geospatial metadata frameworks that support standardized, open access African dataset for Machine learning applications. He also applies GeoAI to improve discovery, processing and analysis of geospatial data for agriculture, disaster response and climate resilience. Prior to UCT, Ian completed his PhD in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Helsinki, where his research used computer vision and deep learning to detect and count livestock from earth observation imagery across African rangelands.
