Wei-Yu Louis Feng
Wei-Yu Louis Feng is a PhD candidate and interdisciplinary researcher at the University of Cape Town (UCT) dedicated to advancing AI safety, ethics, and fairness within the context of underrepresented African languages. With an academic foundation including a BSc. Eng. in Mechatronics and an M.Phil. in Space Studies from UCT, Louis leverages over eight years of experience in technical management and systems engineering to address complex challenges in multilingual Natural Language Processing (NLP). His current research focuses on the auditing of Large Language Models (LLMs) for bias and harm, the development of community-driven datasets, and the creation of low-compute AI tools designed for global inclusivity. A recognized Emerging Space Leader and award-winning engineer, his previous work in control systems and space debris remediation has been featured by international media outlets such as Deutsche Welle and Space.com. By integrating high-level system modeling with a commitment to digital trust, Louis aims to pioneer adversarial robustness and multi-objective optimization strategies that balance accuracy with ethical deployment in diverse, real-world environments.
